Nordic Championship 2022

The Danish Go Association is pleased to host the 2022 Nordic Championship. The tournament is open for all nationalities, however only players from the Nordic countries, will be able to fight for the prestigious title of 'Nordic Champion'. The highest placing player from a Nordic country will take the title!

Where and when?

The 2022 Nordic Championship will be held during the Easter holidays, 15.-17. of april 2022.

We are happy to announce that Young Sun Yoon 8p will join and help players review their games. 

Young Sun Yoon 8p runs the YouTube channel Yoon's Baduk Cafe and you can also check out her website

Now living in Hamburg Germany she has taught many players here in Europe for many years. Notably, from her time as a pro in Korea she has notably won the Women's Kuksu title 4 times!

Rules: EGF rules, Japanese with 6½ komi

Time settings: Fischer, 70 minutes + 20s/move

The venue may also be open thursday evening. Let us know in advance if you would like to come by thursday.

The venue will close around 22:00 every day except sunday

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 players of the open tournament. 

An additional prize will be given to the player who earns the title of 'Nordic Champion'.

Further prizes may be given to players who show good results, such as winning 4 games or more.

The expected prize pool is at least 3000 DKK (400 euro), although this will depend on the number of participants, and may change.

Travel & Accomodation

Sønderborg can be reached by train, bus or airplane via Copenhagen Airport.

Train is possible through DSB

FlixBus usually operates between Copenhagen and Sønderborg. https://global.flixbus.com/bus-routes/bus-copenhagen-sonderborg (tickets can be as cheap as 99 kr. if booked at the right time).

Sønderborg has various options of hotels, hostels and Airbnb.

There are currently no options for private/free accommodation. Some hostels provide cheaper rooms for groups of people traveling together. Let us know if you are looking for cheaper accommodation, and we might be able to get some of you in contact with each other. 

Support for kids youth players & students is available. The tournament has kindly been sponsored by 'Fabrikant Mads Clausens Fond' with a pool of money to help kids and youth players.
If you are under 18 or studying, and wish to participate, we will able to give financial support for travel & accomodation (approx 70-140 euro pp, depending on the interest). Please contact us for more details!

COVID-19

We hope that in April 2022 the COVID situation is calm, and that we will be able to hold the tournament without restrictions.
